The board of directors of Houston Endowment
elected two new directors and a new board chair on February 2.
Anne S. Chao will begin serving on the board effective
immediately. Dr. Chao is a lecturer in the History Department at
Rice University. She serves on the governing boards of Alley Theatre,
Houston Ballet, Houston Public Library Foundation, and St. John’s
School. She serves on the advisory boards of Inprint and Teach for
America, as well as several groups at Rice University. Dr. Chao
has an undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and master’s
and doctoral degrees from Rice University.
Douglas L. Foshee will begin serving as a member
of the board effective September 1, 2010. He is Chairman and CEO
of El Paso Corporation, a Fortune 500 company that produces and
transports natural gas. Mr. Foshee chairs the board of directors
of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Houston Branch, and serves
on the governing boards of Central Houston, Rice University,
KIPP, Greater Houston Partnership and other organizations. He has
an undergraduate degree from Southwest Texas State University and
an MBA from the Jesse H. Jones School at Rice University.
Anthony W. Hall, Jr. was elected Chair of the board
of directors. Mr. Hall has served on the foundation’s board since
2003.
L.E. Simmons completed a final term and 12 years
of service on the Houston Endowment board. He was elected as an
independent member of the Investment Committee for the foundation.
Houston Endowment is a $1.4 billion private
foundation established in 1937 by Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones. The
foundation makes grants supporting a broad array of charitable activities
