Houston Endowment today announced the appointment of Joe Dilg and John M. Esquivel to serve on its board of directors, effective July 1.

Joe is a vice chairman of Greenhill & Co., Inc., an international, advisory-only investment banking firm, where he specializes in energy mergers and acquisitions and restructurings. Previously, Joe practiced law with Vinson & Elkins for nearly 40 years and served as managing partner of the firm from 2002 to 2011.

Joe is currently a member of the boards of directors of the Houston Zoo and the Houston Parks Board, and a member of the executive council of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Energy, Law and Business at the University of Texas. Joe graduated from Southern Methodist University and received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was an editor of the Texas Law Review.

John is retired from Shell Oil Company where he was chief ethics and compliance officer and associate general counsel. During his 32 years as an attorney for Shell, John served on the investment committee for the Shell Pension Plans, the senior leadership teams of Shell’s major business segments and the company-wide strategic study team on diversity.

His recent accomplishments and civic contributions include: member of the board and executive committee of National Council of La Raza, the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization; chairman of the Greater Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation; member of the quality committee of the Memorial Hermann Health System; chairman of Justice For Our Neighbors Houston, a nonprofit organization that provides low-cost, quality immigration services; and member of the board of the YMCA of Greater Houston. He was also elected lay leader for the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

John received his Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Mary’s University and his J.D. from the University of Michigan.

Houston Endowment is governed by a self-perpetuating board of directors, whose members are elected to three-year terms. Directors, who can serve up to four terms, are typically chosen from among business and civic leaders in greater Houston.
