Houston Endowment today announced the appointment of Ann Barnes, M.D., and Arshad Matin to serve on its board of directors, effective April 1.
Dr. Barnes is chief medical officer at Legacy Community Health, the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in Houston. She oversees clinical services provided by the health system as well as clinical-quality, nursing, and public health services. She also maintains a voluntary faculty position as an associate professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Previously, Dr. Barnes was medical director of weight management services and disease prevention for Harris Health System.
Dr. Barnes is currently a member of the boards of directors of Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research, Communities in Schools Houston, YMCA of Greater Houston, Good Reason Houston and the TMC Health Policy Institute.
She is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and completed her residency in internal medicine/primary care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Barnes received her master’s in public health from The University of Texas School of Public Health and is a board-certified internist. She is a Houston native.
Mr. Matin is president and CEO of Paradigm, a software provider in upstream oil and gas that was acquired by Emerson in December 2017. He previously served as executive vice president of global products and services of IHS, Inc.; as president and CEO of Seismic Micro-Technology, Inc.; and as a partner in the Houston office of McKinsey & Company. He has over 25 years of experience in the software industry and in software-enabled businesses.
Mr. Matin is currently a member of the board of directors of On Assignment (NYSE:ASGN), St. John’s School and Nora’s Home, a nonprofit that provides affordable lodging for transplant patients and their families at TMC.
Mr. Matin earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, his M.S. in computer engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, and his B.E. in electrical engineering from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in India.
Houston Endowment is governed by a self-perpetuating board of directors, whose members are elected to three-year terms. Directors, who can serve up to four terms, are typically chosen from among business and civic leaders in greater Houston.
