Chasing Light
CHASING LIGHT
Chasing Light, the third exhibition of the 2025 Jones Artist Awards Program, is about the creative process as a pursuit. For the four artists featured, it is less about the promise of arriving somewhere and more a practice of staying open and letting their materials and processes lead. Here, ritual turns inward rather than expressed as a shared experience. In these personal rituals, the creative process is meditative, seeking clarity, release, and, at times, repair.

Abbie Preston Edmonson
Abbie Preston Edmonson created three new vessels for this exhibition. Titled Between Starshine and Clay, a phrase borrowed from Lucille Clifton’s poem won’t you celebrate with me, the work pairs clay with handmade paper that is stitched together with her grandmother’s thread.

Richard Poe
Richard Poe’s photographs quite literally chase light. Walking his mostly wild 3.5-acre land outside Austin, he waits for moments when color and shadow tip into spectacle. He then cuts and recombines these photographs into collages, producing archival digital prints.
